TCP not to regularise unauthorised structures on orchard land

PANJIM: In a major decision, Department of Town and Country Planning (TCP) has decided not to approve regularisation of unauthorised structures on orchard land or sub-divided orchard plot.
The decision was taken on Thursday during a joint meeting chaired by TCP Minister Vijai Sardesai and Revenue Minister Rohan Khaunte along with officials of departments concerned. Nearly 7,500 applications for regularisation of unauthorised structures are pending before government.
The meeting also decided to regularise commercial constructions built within 100 sq mtrs and unauthorised houses within 200 sq mtrs area in private lands.
Speaking to Herald after the meeting, Sardesai said he has issued a clear note that the department will not approve any application for regularisation of unauthorised structures on orchard land or sub divided orchard plots.
“We are very clear. I have told Revenue Minister that there is no possibility of allowing such structures. At the same time, we are ready to dilute certain provisions like setback area, surface right etc to give relaxation to such applicants,” the Minister said.
The government in 2016 had passed a law to regularise unauthorised structures built on or before February 28, 2014. The cutoff date was extended to apply till December 31, 2018.
During the meeting, directions were issued to officials to prepare a road map for clearing these applications at the earliest.
