MARGAO: Alleging that the introduction of Transfer of Development Rights (TDR) is nothing but loot of the precious little existing Goan land, Former minister Mickky Pacheco has castigated the government on its decision to drop the cases against those involved in the SEZ scam.
Briefing media persons, he disclosed that he had funded the case against SEZ in the Supreme Court and wondered how the government could now suddenly think about compensating the SEZ promoters who had clandestinely and fraudulently got the land allotted to them.
“The investigations should continue to identify the people who were responsible for the SEZ scams and people who were implicated in the matter like Leader of Opposition Babu Kavlekar, former chief ministers Digambar Kamat and Pratapsing Rane should be punished,” he said.
Mickky said that the Congress and the BJP were working together to protect each other in this scheme and demanded that the investigations should be taken to their logical conclusion so that Goans know who sold their land for a pittance.
Castigating Town and Country Planning Minister Vijai Sardessai on the TDR issue, he said it was introduced only to help the non-Goans who have purchased land in no development zones like fields and forests.
“Instead of introducing TDR Vijai should cultivate the land he has purchased in Seraulim through his wife and friend Ibrahim Maulana,” he said adding that cultivating that barren land would be better than transferring the rights for its development to someone else.
