Teachers instructed not to leave State post lockdown

Class X, XII exams likely in May; Announcement to be made advance

PANJIM: Pending Class X and Class XII Board examinations, which are likely to be held in May, the Goa Board has instructed teachers not to leave the State, post lockdown, as their services would be requisitioned for confidential work pertaining to examination, failing which they are warned of action. 

The Goa Board of Secondary and High Secondary Education (GBSHSE) in a circular issued to all the Heads of the Institutions on Friday has said that the rescheduled time table for Class XII examination would be announced five days prior to the commencement of the exams, while in case of Class X the same would be 10 days in advance. 

The Board has said that the programme would be decided keeping all aspects related to entrance exams, admission dates, and others in mind. 

Speaking to Herald, Board Chairman Ramakrishna Samant said that through the circular the Heads of the Institutions are instructed not to allow teachers to leave headquarters, that is Goa, post lockdown is lifted on May 3, as their services would be requisitioned for confidential work pertaining to examination. 

“The Board examinations are likely to be held in May, and the month being summer vacation, many opt to go out of the State for holiday. But in the current situation of COVID-19 it is not possible but still we have issued necessary precautions,” Samant said. 

He said that the non-compliance of the directions will attract strict action. 

The circular, issued by Goa Board Secretary Bhagirath Shetye also mentions that the Board has not been able to carry out assessment work of HSSC due to present situation and has informed the Chief Moderator, Moderators and Examiners that the same would be intimated two-three days prior to commencement of the work. 

Also, the Class IX and XI students, who want to seek for improvement in marks, can apply for supplementary examinations, dates of which would be also announced shortly.

Owing to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Board examinations were postponed while the final exams of Class IX and XI were cancelled.  

The institutions are also directed to bring to the notice of the teachers, staff and students about the various initiatives of the government such as Arogya Setu App and Protocol for Immunity Boosting, adopted to control the COVID-19 crisis.
