PERNEM: While the Government Primary School at Bhandarwada, Palyem, is being repaired since last four months, the teachers are paying for running the school in a rented house in the neighbourhood.
Four months ago, the classes were shifted to a rented house in the neighbourhood before taking up the repair works on the school building. Since then, the rent of Rs 2,500 for the house is being paid by the four primary teachers from their own pockets.
Since the rented house is a small one, classes for pre-primary students are conducted in the balcony and classes for primary students are conducted in a small room.
Commenting on the slow pace of repair work, the parents said that they are disappointed with the functioning of the education department due to which students are “facing inconvenience”. They have blamed the GSIDC for the slow pace of repair work.
Sources say that the work was started in May this year and yet painting and electric wiring haven’t started yet.
“If there wasn’t enough fund to pay the contractor and complete the work within a time frame, why die GSIDC take up the repair work? Due to the irresponsible behaviour of the GSIDC, the students are facing problems. This is a monsoon season; it rains heavily every day, due to which, children attending classes in the balcony are facing major problem since the water enters there. This has led to children falling fall sick,” Namdev Tulaskar, a parent, said.
However, GSIDC officials have assured to complete the work by October 3. And the parents have warned of launching an agitation, if the work is not completed by October 3.
