MARGAO: Team Goa is the only way to keep the corrupt and anti-Goan Bharatiya Janata Party out of Goan politics and the Margao Civic Alliance is the first step to form Team Goa said Goa Forward Party President Vijai Sardesai while asking people to vote for the alliance candidates at the Margao Municipal Council elections, on Tuesday.
Addressing a public meeting held jointly by Fatorda Forward candidates Milagre alias Milu Noronha and Ravindra alias Raju Naik, who are contesting from Wards 8 and 9, respectively, Vijai said the BJP has earned the title of “Brashtrachari Janata Party”.
He accused the BJP of not wanting development and instead curbing development.
“It was the BJP that stopped the proposal to have a proper football ground with a jogging track and pavilion near the Multipurpose High School,” he said while adding that even the new premises for Multipurpose High School have been kept on hold by the government.
“The Chief Minister is not bothered about the fact that 800 Goans have died due to coronavirus but is only interested in keeping the transport moving so that he can get his commission from the coal transporting mafia,” he said.
Speaking further Vijai said, “The Chief Minister was more interested in cultivating ganja in the State instead of paddy and hence the BJP has become a ganja party.”
Vijai said he does not have to prove anything as Fatorda has seen a lot of development and pointed out that asking for votes for the development he has brought about and not on promises of bringing development.
He said, “The BJP has put Goa for a clearance sale and that is why Mhadei River was sold to Karnataka. One lakh trees are being cut in Mollem and all that is good for Goa is being destroyed. This Sawantwadi Chief Minister is now seeking votes in the name of late Manohar Parrikar when they had objected to a road in Fatorda being named after him,” he said.
Vijai said that the road that was proposed to be named after late Manohar Parrikar will now be called Forward Avenue because the BJP itself had objected to naming the road after Manohar and added that Damodar alias Damu Naik of the BJP is an extremely negative and destructive character, who did not know the difference between a culvert and a bridge.
While disclosing that the proposal to build an avenue from St Joaquim Circle to Chowgule College junction is already moving ahead, he said he will lead an agitation if necessary to ensure that the Multipurpose High School and surrounding areas are developed.
Vijai cautioned people about Camilo, who he said has been a member of various political parties and whose brother’s daughter-in-law is the Congress candidate in another ward while he is a BJP candidate. He asked people to vote for Milu and Raju to give Margao a steady council that will do people’s work.
Speaking earlier, Goa Forward Party General Secretary Prashant Naik said victory of Goa Forward candidates would weaken the BJP and said the municipal elections are a semi-final for them before the finals which will be the Assembly elections in 2022.
“We shall provide masks and sanitisers to enable you to go and vote and please do not remain at home,” he said and demanded a repeat of last municipal elections where all 11 candidates of Fatorda Forward were elected.
Vikas Bhagat of Goenkar — Ek Paul Ekcharachem also addressed the gathering while Freddy Travasso of the same organisation was also present for the meeting.
