MARGAO: Technical faults at the tax payment counter at Margao Municipal Council witnessed huge chaos on Monday as angry citizens, including senior citizens, demanded to put in the system in place.
The reasons for the frustration was the inconvenience the public faced due to the failure in printing the receipts.
The staff of the civic body were at the receiving end of the furious public and brought the issue to the notice of Chief Officer and Chairperson.
A staffer stated that they suddenly witnessed that there was a problem with the internet and it resulted in a change in setting of the printers, however, during the initial hours, everything was working systematically. “Suddenly printing on vertical receipts were noticed. It continued for a very long time despite trying to resolve it. Later, with no other option, we stopped accepting fees and issuing the receipts”, said the employee.
The issue was brought to the notice of Damodar Shirodkar, Chairperson and Srinet Kothwale (Additional Collector), Chief Officer, who tried their level best to contact the concerned technical experts to restore the service.
However, with no other option left and a huge queue to pay the taxes, service was continued with the receipts having vertical printing on it.
Speaking to the reporters, several citizens expressed frustration and demanded the civic body to replace the equipment so that inconvenience to the public is avoided.
“Taking into consideration, the repeated technical faults the civic body needs to take the issue seriously so that citizens of Margao don’t face the hardships”, said citizens.
Reacting on the issue Damodar Shirodkar, Chairperson stated that it was a technical fault and the civic body is trying to repair it. “The public also needs to cooperate during such avoidable circumstances. It was not the fault of staff”, he stated.
