PANJIM: Technology has opened avenues for misdemeanours and increased exposure to internet and social media, a children’s rights activist said Friday, while arguing that a number of cases suggests that technology facilitates sexual assault.
Nancy Veronica of Chennai-based NGO Tulir, while addressing a day-long seminar on ‘Dynamics of Child Sexual Abuse’ Tuesday said most teenagers who have social media account go online without supervision from their parents, cautioning that it is a dangerous indication.
The orientation program organized by the Goa State Commission for Protection of Child Rights for the Child Welfare Committees, Juvenile Justice Boards, Goa Police and NGOs comes at a time when at least one case of sexual assault or crime against women is being reported, daily.
Ironically, Goa does not have a full-fledged Cyber Crime Cell.
