CANACONA: Eighteen-year-old Dipu Hiremath, died on Monday after he was allegedly hit by a train while crossing the railway track at Ponsulem, Canacona.
Railway Police informed that they retrieved the body of a youth on Monday morning.
As Dipu failed to return home till late Monday afternoon, his parents went to Canacona Police Station, who informed them that the Railway Police have found a body on the track at Ponsulem. His parents later identified the body as that of their son.
Railway Police said the initial investigation points out to the fact that the teenager, who was studying in a local higher secondary school, used to work at a restaurant nearby and during night hours may have been hit by a moving train.
“We found earphones and a mobile at the accident site, so prima facie it looks like that he was listening to music and didn’t hear the sound of the train coming from behind resulting in his death,” a railway police source said.
After the post mortem, the body was handed over to the family for final rites, police said.
