MAPUSA: Calangute police recovered the body of 17-year-old Mohamad Jaffar, a resident of Aradi Nerul, from under Nerul bridge on Wednesday morning.
The incident came to light early morning on Wednesday when the locals notice the body lying under the bridge. Though the cause of death is yet to be ascertained, but the face of the boy was found in a smashed state.
However, Calangute police are of the opinion that it is not a murder but the victim might have fallen from the bridge and succumbed.
Calangute police conducted panchanama and sent the body to Goa Medical College Hospital for post mortem.
Meanwhile, the mother of the boy informed that the boy was friendly with a girl from Maharashtra, but the parents of the girl were not ready to accept their relationship.
On Tuesday night they received a call from the family of the girl after which the boy went out at around 9.30 pm and did not return home till late night. His parents reportedly presumed that he may have gone out with his friends. But when he failed to return home on Wednesday morning, the family began contacting his friends.
And on Wednesday morning, when people noticed the body and gathered at the bridge, one of the relatives of the boy who was passing by the place identified the body and contacted the police. The family suspects that someone from Maharashtra might have killed the boy.
