Tejpal case hearing adjourned to Dec 22

PANJIM: The High Court of Bombay at Goa on Wednesday adjourned hearing into Tarun Tejpal sexual assault case to December 22 in view of an ongoing hearing before the Supreme Court challenging High Court’s order rejecting in-camera trial.

The High Court had on November 24 rejected Tejpal’s plea seeking in-camera hearing into an appeal against his acquittal in the 2013 rape case. An in-camera hearing restricts general public from attending the proceedings.

The senior journalist then moved Special Leave Petition before the Apex Court challenging the High Court’s order. The matter has been tentatively fixed for hearing on Friday, as such, the High Court on Wednesday adjourned the ongoing hearing to December 22.

On May 21, 2021, the fast track court acquitted Tejpal, the former editor-in-chief of the Tehelka magazine, in the case where he was accused of sexually assaulting his then colleague in a lift of a five-star hotel in Goa where they were present to attend an event.
