PANJIM: Uncomfortable questions posed to the victim during cross examination in the rape case against Tehelka magazine’s former editor-in-chief Tarun Tejpal has prompted the victim to approach the High Court of Bombay at Goa seeking a stop to such queries.
The High Court, while hearing the plea on Thursday, has directed the District Court to not allow Tejpal’s advocate to ask irrelevant questions to the victim.
The victim, also a journalist, has alleged that Tejpal’s advocate’s irrelevant and humiliating questions during the 10 days of cross examination forced her to approach the High Court for relief. The bench has adjourned the matter for further hearing on December 20.
The District & Sessions Court on October 21 resumed trial in the case following Supreme Court’s direction in August for time bound disposal of the case, preferably within six months. Tejpal is facing prosecution for the offence punishable under Sections 354(A), 376, 376 2(k) of the Indian Penal Code.
