Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has directed officials to put the Airport Metro Alignment Plan on hold and swiftly prepare alternative routes from MGBS-Falaknuma and LB Nagar to the airport via Chandrayangutta. During a review meeting on metro connectivity to the airport, Reddy expressed dissatisfaction with the alignment and instructed the Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) MD to explore cost-effective alternatives, considering routes via Mailardevpally, Jalpally, P7 Road, or Barkas-Pahadishareef and Srisailam Road. He emphasized the need to serve the central, eastern, and Old City areas, and raised concerns about benefits granted to L&T Metro Rail despite incomplete projects, calling for a thorough investigation.
The chief minister urged officers to examine concession agreements involving L&T MRHL and GMR Airport, emphasizing the city’s balanced development in all directions. Reddy proposed planning for satellite townships along the Outer Ring Road (ORR) and environmentally friendly mega townships near Pharma City, advocating Metro Rail connectivity to the new megacity from the airport area via Tukkuguda. He emphasized planning for a master plan, beautification of the Musi river, and east-west road-cum-Metro Rail connectivity from Nagole to Gandipet. Additionally, Reddy instructed officials to think strategically about Hyderabad’s potential as a logistics and medical hub, suggesting plans for a dry port in the landlocked state.
