MARGAO: Telaulim villagers constituted a six-member Biodiversity Committee at a gram sabha this morning. None of the panchayat members were nominated to the Biodiversity Committee which is supposed to have at least seven members including the chairman.
Besides, the villagers approved the name of one person for the National Benefit Scheme under the national social assistance. Incidentally under this scheme of the Centre, a below poverty line widow is entitled to receive assistance of Rs 10,000. However, if the husband died after 2012 then the assistance is of Rs 20,000.
Three of the panchayat members including Deputy Sarpanch Reema Dias asked the panchayat to demand an over bridge for the existing Telaulim to Navelim road between Coldem and 1st Dando over the six-lane National Highway that is being constructed there.
“The traffic will increase tremendously and people using the narrow village road will be at great risk of accident there,” they said. The other two panchas who demanded the over bridge were Nelsa Cardoso and Samson Andrade.
Incidentally, six of the seven panchayat members were present for the gram sabha on Sunday with Prudencio Carneiro being the only one not present.
