With Fat Saturday knocking on the doors across Goa, carnival fever in the state is building up. Although commercialized across the major cities in Goa, the true essence is showcased by the local Goans representing Goa’s rich culture, heritage and people. The vibrant costumes, decked-up streets, the parades illustrating Goan cultures, groovy Goan music and delicious Goan food are a site to behold. We bring you glimpses of the Children’s CarnavalinPilerne and curtain raiser of Carnaval festivities which will happen in Majorda and Curtorim
A children’s carnaval organised by Festakar Marius Fernandes and Dr Gwendolyn De Ornelas was held at St. John the Baptist Church in Pilerne on Thursday. The aim was to encourage the children, parents, and others to promote the state’s culture and tradition and minimise commercialism.
The United Boys of Majorda are organising a carnival festival called Intruz de Majorda on February 20 at 3 pm. The festival will showcase Goan culture through the floats parade followed by a night of dancing at Majorda. Various competitions will also be held. The festival is open to all Goans.
The village of Curtorim is all set to celebrate Carnaval in style this year, after the low-key festivities of the past two years due to the Covid pandemic. The 14th edition of the Curtorimcarnaval float parade will be held on February 21, and will start at 3.30 pm, moving from Maina market to Curtorim market. A live Konkani entertainment programme will follow this with fire acrobats and other activities and competitions.
