MARGAO: The Chandreshwar Bhuthnath Temple Committee has opposed the alleged illegal felling of trees and hill cutting at the ‘Chandranath Parvat’ of Shree Chandreshwar Bhutnath Saunsthan at Paroda. The Parvat, which is a heritage zone as per Archaeological Survey of India, has witnessed large-scale tree felling recently. To protest the same, the committee and the villagers will hold a protest at the temple to demand punishment to the culprits.
A delegation of ex-committee members comprising of Dr Venkatesh Prabhudesai, Sanjay Gauns Dessai, Balkrishna Prabhudesai, Madhukar Desai, and convenors of Parvat Saurakshan Abhiyan Ramprasad Ganesh Prabhudesai and Satyajit A Prabhudesai met Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar, Environment Minister Rejendra Arlekar and Cuncolim MLA Rajan Naik and presented them a request letter and documents of the case.
Parsekar promised to initiate an enquiry and take strict action against the culprits.
The committee has alleged that three violations were noticed prima facie: tree felling in steep ground cover, development inside a heritage zone, and development in private forest area, including development of roads by hill cutting.
