VASCO: Mormugao locals on Sunday gheraoed Mormugao Police Station for allegedly causing delay in filing a complaint by temple priest and two workers, who were beaten up by a group of youth.
Police stated that some local youth had gathered to celebrate the birthday of their friend on Friday night. After cutting the cake at midnight, some of them went near the Hanuman temple at Baina and washed the cake off their faces. However, they started to then play with each other with the water, which is when temple workers Datta and Maanav, who were cleaning the premises, told them not to waste water.
Since the youth refused to listen, they shut off the water flow which angered the youth. They then allegedly started beating up them up and priest Prasad rushed to their rescue and was allegedly beaten up as well.
All three victims went to the Mormugao Police Station to lodge a complaint from where they were taken to the hospital for medical tests. They returned back to the station, however, they were made to sit till the wee hours and then a complaint was filed.
When the news of the incident spread like wildfire, a group of around 100 people rushed to the police station and demanded the arrest of the assailants. Four people were arrested.
