QUEPEM: The Sanvordem Gram Sabha witnessed heated discussions with the panchayat accused of being inefficient and incapable as issues raised by villagers for the last many months have not been addressed as yet.
Setting the ball rolling, Sanket Bhandari pointed out that despite having raised the issue of danger to human life due to the temporary fish market in the village at the last four gram sabhas, nothing has been done to change the situation.
“Due to the traffic congestion caused at that junction with people stopping to buy fish, there have been so many accidents and it appears that the panchayat will act only when someone dies there,” he shouted angrily while demanding that at least home guards be posted there to monitor the traffic.
Sarpanch Chinmayi Naik while admitting to the problem due to the fish market, said Curchorem Police have assured to post a guard to regulate traffic movement there particularly on Sundays and Wednesdays.
Sanket also pointed out that the Manohar Parrikar Sports Complex in Sanvordem has not been used since it was inaugurated three years ago and said that it will now have to undergo major maintenance works to be used.
“It appears that the panchayat is not in contact with the Sports Minister to even get this sports complex operational even though it is named after the last chief minister,” said Sanket.
However, the Sarpanch clarified that she along with MLA Ganesh Gaonkar had discussed the matter with the Sports Minister Govind Gaude and assured that the sports complex will be functional as soon as recruitment of some posts is done, however failed to give any date for its starting.
While Shyam Bhandari pointed out that the panchayat had failed to repair the bus stop shelter at Dhadem that had collapsed six months ago, Swapnil Bhandari lamented that local youth are not being employed in the industries operating in the village and demanded that the panchayat act on this.
The Sarpanch while pointing out that there are only two factories operating in the village, said the panchayat has instructed them to give preference to locals while recruiting staff.
She also disclosed that the panchayat will be shortly constituting a committee to discuss the issue of Forest Rights in the village.
