PANJIM: Ten aspirants filed their candidatures for the April 23 municipal polls, on the first day of the poll process starting.
Five municipalities – Mapusa, Margao, Mormugao, Sanguem and Quepem – will go to the polls on April 23.
As per information provided by the State Election Commission (SEC), ten nominations were filed in four municipalities, while no nominations was received for Margao Municipal Council.
Three nominations each were filed in Mapusa, Mormugao and Quepem while one in Sanguem municipal area. The last date for filing of the nominations is April 8.
Over 1.85 lakh voters are eligible to exercise their franchise in these five municipalities.
Scrutiny of applications will take place on April 9, while withdrawal of candidature, if any, will be allowed on April 10.
No nominations were received for the by-elections to Ward II of Karapur-Sarvan village panchayat in Bicholim taluka and ward IV of Velim village panchatyat in Salcete taluka, where polling is also scheduled on April 23.
