PANJIM: In one of the largest-ever single-day tenant verification drive, the Goa police have verified over 3,000 tenants across 14 police stations in North Goa district over the weekend.
According to Superintendent of Police, North, Akshat Kaushal, IPS, during the drive, each beat of North Goa district was activated and was sent to their areas to conduct a surprise tenantverification drive.
During the drive, around 3,000 tenants were verified. The verification process included checking whether the landlords had done proper police verification, checking whether any rented premise was being used for any illegal activity and random checking of antecedents of tenants to be sure that none of the anti-social elements from other States were found residing in Goa.
Around 100 persons were found without proper tenant verification. In this regard, reports against all such landlords has been sent to Deputy Collectors for taking necessary legal action, a police statement said.
During the last fortnight, several such drives were launched by Police Station staff of North Goa district. During the drives, over 5,000 tenants were verified and around 500 tenants were found to be staying without proper documents, the statement said.
