Tenant verification enforced in Pernem after taxi driver’s murder at Dhargalim

All those who let out rooms or houses have been asked to submit tenant verification forms to the police

PERNEM: In view of the recent murder of a taxi driver at Dhargal, police officers have taken a decision to do verification of non-Goans who are staying at Pernem as a tenants. The owner has to submit a tenant verification form which states all the details of the tenants, who are non-Goans, so that in future if any incident happens, by using details on this form, the police can nab the accused. This is done to safeguard the safety of the villagers.

On Friday, the Pernem MLA along with DySP Jivba Dalvi, police officers and Pernem panchayat bodies held a press conference regarding the recent murder case of the Taxi driver by three non-Goans at Dhargal.  The press conference not only highlighted the murder, but various criminal incidents taking place in the State due to the migrants.

“In order to avoid such tragic incidents in future, police verification will be made compulsory in every ward across Pernem. The owner should make sure that the details of their tenants are submitted to the police station. I request every one to help the police and the panchayat by submitting the tenant information.”  Pravin Arlekar, Pernem MLA said.

The MLA further stated that by providing the tenant’s personal information to the police authorities, the non-Goan tenants are also alerted and will be careful in future before taking any wrong steps. If in future such incidents do take place then it will be much easier for the police to nab the perpetrators.

DySP Jivba Dalvi highlighted the importance and the effects of these tenant verification cards. He said, “Criminals from other states come to Goa and stay in the State by posing as normal citizens. Unaware of their background, the house owner allows them to stay as tenants. In some instances, police departments from other states have arrived in Goa to nab these criminals. So by making this card, it will be easy for us and the owners to know the tenants’ background.”

Meanwhile, Congress leader Sanjay Barde has criticized the police officials for not taking any cognizance in this matter and expressed his frustration over the police failure. He highlighted that there are three police stations within the Pernem Taluka. Despite having three police stations Pernem have no control over the people, he said.
