Tender for collection of levy/fees floated: SGPDA

MARGAO: The tender for appointing labour for collection of levy/fees at the wholesale fish market is already floated, clarified Ranjit Borkar, Member Secretary of South Goa Planning and Development Authority.

Speaking to Herald, Borkar also said that the SGPDA has got all the legal approvals for the same and the process is in the final stage to finalise the sopo collector as per the High Court of Bombay at Goa directions. It is pertinent to note that the Margao Wholesale Fish Market Association had filed a petition before the High Court with regard to the issue, and alleged that the present sopo collector is not legal. Hearing the plea, the High Court on September 27 had issued directions to the SGPDA to float the tender within a maximum period of three months with regard to the same.

It was further directed that if the process is not completed within three months from the given date, the SGPDA must itself collect the levy/fees.

“We are very much aware of the High Court directions and the SGPDA is on the final stage of resolving the issue. We got approval from all the concerned authorities, and hence the process will be completed within the given period,” said member secretary.
