BICHOLIM: A large mob gathered at the Bicholim Police station on Wednesday night, demanding that activist Shreya Dhargalkar, who is in police custody be brought and put up at the police lock-up here.
On getting the information that the Bicholim police had arrested Shreya, the mob marched at the police station and demanded that she be put in lock up here.
However, Bicholim DySP Sagar Ekoskar informed them that since Shreya has been remanded in 14 days judicial custody, till June 4, she had been lodged at the Central jail, Colvale.
But the restive crowd was not in a mood to listen to the police and blocked the Bicholim-Sankhali bypass road.
Till late night, top police officers were holding talks with the protestors trying to convince them about the legal process.
The Bicholim police arrested Shreya after she was released on conditional bail, over comments on Devi Lairai’s devotees.
Shreya, Namita granted conditional bail in Cuncolim case; Shreya taken into custody by Bicholim police
MARGAO: Activist Shreya Dhargalkar and Namita Fatarpekar, who were arrested in the Fatorpa temple committee accusation and religious sentiment hurting case on Sunday, were granted conditional bail by the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC), Quepem, on Wednesday.
Both, Shreya and Namita Fatarpekar, were released on personal bond of Rs 25,000 each along with one surety in like amount. They have also been asked to report to the Cuncolim police station for 15 days and not to enter Fatorpa village and further not to leave the State without the Court’s permission.
Shreya, who was hospitalised immediately after her arrest, was kept in the Cuncolim lock-up after she was discharged from the hospital.
Earlier, the Court heard arguments on the bail applications moved by both the accused and pronounced the order.
Cuncolim PI Diogo Gracias said since another offence is registered by the Bicholim police against Shreya, she was taken into custody by them after following legal formalities.
The Cuncolim police have registered a case under Sections 153, 153-A, 295 A, 298 and 500 read with 34 of IPC besides Section 66-A of IT Act against three persons of which two were arrested while search is on for the third accused.
Namita is also involved in another offence registered against her by the Margao police following a complaint lodged by PSI Tejas Kumar Naik of Cuncolim police station for having bitten a woman constable, while she had gone to serve a notice on her under Section 41-A of CrPC.
The Margao police have registered the offence under various section of IPC like 353 for obstructing police while discharging duty, 324 for causing hurt and 504 for abusing.
