Tension flared up during the Chimbel Gram Sabha meeting as members expressed their anger after a builder obstructed the road to the crematorium at Sheren-Gaulembhat in Chimbel. The locals highlighted numerous irregularities in the approved plan, including the exclusion of the crematorium area, approaching road, open spaces, and forest trees.
The Sarpanch admitted that the panchayat had issued a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to Ms Piroj Dalal without conducting a ground inspection. The locals expressed concerns about possible bribery and criticized the Sarpanch and Secretary for not revoking the NOC despite being made aware of the issue. They also demanded an investigation into the sale promotion of the plot development project under a different builder’s name. The meeting concluded with a unanimous resolution to immediately revoke the NOC and refrain from issuing any further NOCs without discussing the matter in the Gram Sabha.
The Sarpanch finally agreed to withdraw the NOC in response to the villagers’ anger. The resolution also called for filing a complaint with the Special Investigation Team (SIT) to address the alleged illegality committed by the builder. The Gram Sabha members demanded that the Panchayat take immediate action and provide an action taken report in the next meeting scheduled for July 2023, promising their attendance to monitor the progress.
