MARGAO: Tension prevailed at Curtorim at the time of auction of fishing rights of Ralloitollem and police were summoned in order to maintain law and order problem.
A group of farmers led by Minguel Fernandes felt their presence to voice out their concerns over alleged unfair practices and irregularities by the Tenants Association of Ralloitollem.
It is pertinent to note, that a few days ago, hearing was conducted at the Salcete Mamlatdar’s office, following a complaint filed by Minguel Fernandes who was one of the affected farmers.
The complaints primarily focused on objections raised regarding the appointment of government servants to the managing committee of the Tenants Association and removal of Minguel Fernandes from the association.
Fernandes stated that the association did not take any mearues to take up for farmers whose crops were destroyed.
“It has been noticed that selected few individuals within the tenant’s association exercise control over the fishing rights and other decision-making processes. The issues of their farmers are being sidelined. Many farmers are unable to grow vegetables,” he alleged.
He also informed that he got all the documents and had already submitted them to the Mamlatdar.
In the notice for auction of fishing rights of Ralloitollem, it has been mentioned that all those belonging to the association of Vaingonnde and Ralloi Tollem will have rights to bid at the auction.
Moreno Rebello, former Zilla Panchayat member, who also made his presence felt urged the representatives of the Mamlatdar’s office to hold a joint meeting of both the groups and resolve the issue.
“The authorities need to take this issue seriously,” he stated.
A group of farmers also lamented that they are deliberately excluded, despite farming being their sole source of livelihood.
Finally, an auction was held, and a group of farmers led by Minguel Fernandes were told to submit their documents before the Mamlatdar.
