PERNEM: Tension prevailed in Tulaskarwadi, Mopa on Monday over the demarcation of Dhargal-Mopa link road as protestors claimed that they were lathi-charged by the cops while the police stated that the locals pelted stones at them.
According to sources, when the authorities were demarcating the Dhargal-Mopa link road, the villagers of Dhargal, Tulaskarwadi Nagzar and Warkhand, who are opposed to the demarcation, blocked the roads.
Since the last two months, the villagers of Tulaskarwadi, Dadachiwadi, Nanachepani, Shemechadwan, Ugvem-Mopa and Varkhand-Nagzar have been agitating and demanding that the government return their land. They have refused to give their land for the link road as they claim to have lost their forest and agriculture land which is their only source of income.
Sources informed that during the protest, the police force deployed at the site, lathi- charged the villagers for blocking the road. The protestors including Sandip Salgaonkar, Mahesh Tulaskar, Dipali Tulaskar, Rupali Tulaskar and Snehal Tulaskar
sustained injuries.
Sources further stated that in retaliation, the protestors pelted stones at the police and 11 cops sustained minor injuries.
Sources said police have booked one Rajat Konadkar, a resident of Dadachiwadi, Dhargal in this connection.
The protestors had blocked the road by setting fire to the wood to prevent police vehicles from entering the village.
