PONDA: Like Panjim, Ponda and nearby villages are also on the verge of becoming smart towns but it is the locals who have to pay for the price of development.
At present, sewerage, gas lines, underground power cabling are progressing in Ponda town and nearby villages but with no coordination, the right hand doesn’t seems to know what the left hand is doing.
In Nagzar-Curti, a JCB operator destroyed watersupply lines at Nagzar-Curti late Saturday evening while he was digging the area to lay the pipeline for piped natural gas (PNG).
Residents began to fret and fume in the absence of water and charged that the road digging had blocked their pathways and entry to their houses.
Locals said there were houses on both sides of the road and warned that unless the work is done in systematic manner they would not allow the contractor to go ahead with the digging and demanded that the damaged roads be immediately tarred.
“We want constructive but not destructive development,” said the villagers.
