PANJIM: The State Environment Department will re-conduct the public hearing on the draft Coastal Zone Management Plan (CZMP) prepared by the National Centre for Sustainable Coastal Management (NCSCM), at taluka level.
The two public hearing scheduled in North and South Goa on July 7 were cancelled following public opposition. The government had decided to submit back the plan to NCSCM and to restudy and bring it back before public.
Environment Department has proposed new tentative dates for the public consultations at taluka level. For North Goa, the public consultation will begin from July 19 at Pernem, July 26, Bicholim, August 3, Bardez and Tiswadi.
In South, it will start with Canacona on July 10 and on July 27 consultation will be held in Salcete, Quepem, Sanguem. In Ponda the consultation is on August 2 and on August 9 at Mormugao.
A total of 168 villages have been categorised under CRZ of which 110 are in North Goa and 58 villages are in South Goa.
While rejecting the plan Environment Minister Nilesh Cabral had said that Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) will write to NCSCM that the draft is being sent back to incorporate all the suggestion made in the first hearing of the MLAs and then get it back for discussions before putting it into the public domain.
