PONDA: In a significant move towards resolving the persistent issue of haphazard parking of heavy goods vehicles in Goa, particularly in Ponda and its surrounding areas, Sanjeevani Sugar Factory, located at Dharbandora, has completed the survey work for the establishment of a mega truck terminal.
The first phase of this transformative project is poised to commence soon, offering a solution to the challenges posed by the chaotic parking of heavy vehicles from other States.
Last year, a delegation led by Agriculture Minister Ravi Naik, accompanied by officials, conducted a site inspection at the Sanjeevani Sugar Factory to address the issue of heavy vehicle parking.
Subsequently, approximately two lakh square metres of land was allocated for the construction of a dedicated truck terminal.
The first phase of the project is expected to provide parking facilities for around 500 heavy trucks. Once operational, this phase is anticipated to generate a daily revenue of approximately Rs one lakh.
Apart from easing the parking woes, the truck terminal project holds the promise of creating employment opportunities for the local population in the Dharbandora taluka.
Additionally, it is expected to significantly reduce unauthorized parking on National Highways and other roadside areas.
Satej Kamat, the administrator of Sanjeevani Sugar Factory and nodal officer of the truck terminal project, stated that upon the completion of the first phase, the truck terminal will begin its operations, charging a parking fee of Rs 200 per truck per day.
The project is also expected to revive the Sanjeevani sugar factory’s petrol pump, contributing to the overall economic vitality of the area.
