Testing of Ponda’s upgraded power infra begins,70pc consumers in Goa to benefit

PONDA: The Curti power Sub Station on Sunday began testing  the 63 MVA transformer installed at Curti-Ponda power sub-station. The transformer aims to benefit around 70% people in Goa who will get improved power supply.

Currently the sub-station handles 350 MVA power which would have been increased to 413 MVA once the transformer became operative, the official said. “Upgradation of the sub-station was needed for better and uninterrupted power supply as the demand has been gradually rising, the official said.

The electricity department officials hopes that once the new transformer is commissioned, power outages across the State would be reduced. The additional boost on power generation and supply would bring relief to the residents across Ponda, Dharbandora, Pale, Panjim and Kadamba plateau, Raia, Fatorda, Verna, Xeldem and other areas of South Goa which are dependent on the Curti sub-station.

The Curti sub-station receives power from grids at Kolhapur, Maharashtra and Ambewadi, Karnataka, and distributes around 60% to 70% power to retail consumers. The balance is transmitted for industrial consumption. The cost of upgradation and installation of a new transformer has cost the State Rs 49 crore.
