PANJIM: With barely a month left for the new academic year to begin on June 4, the State Educational Research and Training Council (SCERT) dispatched 30 per cent surplus text books to its sub-offices in three talukas, while printing of the balance books is near completion.
An education official told Herald the SCERT had already placed an order to print the remaining text books for Class I to VIII, which would shortly be distributed to the nine talukas “within the next couple of days.”
Unlike the past years, the education department has been making every effort to ensure government school students are given single-line note books and text books on or before June 4.
“We had surplus text books printed during the last academic year, which is why we preferred to print less than the required for this year. The 30 per cent surplus books were distributed to our officials in the three talukas including Tiswadi and Bardez before March. They will deliver these books to schools located in their respective jurisdiction soon so that students begin their academic lessons from the reopening day,” SCERT official said.
“The balance stock will be distributed once the SCERT office is made available of these textbooks. The printing is nearly complete.”
While notebooks – each set consisting of two 200 pages and two 100 pages, will be distributed to government primary students, students studying in government and aided schools from Class I to Class VIII are eligible to avail the textbooks.
