VALPOI: Thane Panchayat has threatened to disconnect electricity and water connections if the Charawane residents fail to stop releasing waste water in gutters and set up soak pits within a month.
A number of people had fallen ill in Charawane recently and health officials had found that the water was contaminated on account of relase of waste water into the gutters which seeped into the water bodies.
The residents had demanded that the Thane Panchayat take serious action against those found releasing waste water into the gutters.
Acting on the public demand, the Thane Panchayat held a meeting under the leadership of Sarpanch Sarita Gaonkar and took serious note of the issue. The panchayat has decided to issue a special notice at public places in the village instructing people to stop releasing waste water immediately.
The panchayat has decided to give residents a month’s time to set up soak pits failing which the panchayat has threatened to disconnect power and water supply to the houses.
Many houses lack soak pit facility, due to which waste water finds its way into the gutters and this is a serious health concern for the people, said panch Prajita Gawas.
