The footbridge collapse at Curchorem on Thursday saw three persons lose their lives. BASURI DESAI met two local boys Amar and Suleman who risked their lives to save others

Amid chaos when the entire crowd was running for their lives, there were two local boys who thought of saving lives of people who fallen into the river from the footbridge.
The two local heroes were Amar Sanvordekar and Suleman Gori. 
The two young boys from Sanvordem without fearing for their own life, jumped in the River Zuari after the bridge collapsed and saved five lives.
The news of two heroes of Sanvordem is going viral on social media with thousands of likes and hundreds of comments congratulating them for their bravery. Herald spoke to both of them on Friday.
Amar Sanvordekar was one of the viewers of rescue operation of suicide victim and one amongst those who fell in the river Zuari after footbridge collapsed. 
However, he not only saved his own life but displayed courage and saved two others from drowning.
“I was shocked after the collapse but didn’t lose my presence of mind. I am a good swimmer but the situation was horrifying. Being at the spot I could not be a mere spectator and my conscience forced me to jump again in the river in response,” Sanvordekar said.
Suleman Gori was down the river and looking for the victim of suicide. He said he saw the footbridge giving way in front of his eyes.
“Soon after collapse I came close to the bridge where I saw some persons struggling in the water and others who has swum to the bank without helping each other. That is the time I decided to jump and save at least few”, Gori said.
He informed that he has saved three lives from drowning.
Both of them did not waste time as mere spectators like many others gathered at the site but without fear they risked their life in saving others before the rescue team could reach the spot.
“It is matter of self satisfaction for us that we were able to at least save some lives,” the duo said.
