The people of Goa, especially lawyers from across the State who have added to and continued with their demand to arrest the four policemen who have brutally assaulted their brother lawyer will wait to see how soon the inquiry is conducted and justice is given to the victim lawyer and his family.
The Home Minister will be aware and will be sensitive to the fact that this is an attempt to murder case. The offence is serious. The victim lawyer still cannot speak as his broken jaw has been held together with wires. His full recovery will take months. Apart from the severe blow to his health, he will also lose out on his legal earnings, for quite some time, according to doctors treating him, this might take as long as six months.
At the same time, the CM who is also the Home Minister, should immediately investigate and take serious action against one Bhumi Varak who came and sprayed paint to seriously injure the eyes of one Munna Halwai who was addressing the media with regard to a land grab case in Bandora. The victim was on the verge of losing his eyesight. This is not ordinary child’s play. This is a serious assault outside the Police headquarters and near the Panjim Police Station.
Varak was arrested and released on bail in a couple of hours in the earlier case where he had attacked the same Munna Halwai and purportedly smashed his car. the propensity of blatant violence has been well established by this accused.
In this case, too the CM can show the firm hand of the State and give a clear direction that Goa is not a place for open lawlessness and the audacity to insult the law will have immediate and severe consequences.
Time is of the essence because the longer the delay crucial evidence in both cases will get diluted and disappear, which will only hamper investigations, making it difficult to secure convictions in court. The Home Minister will be well aware of that.
