Margao: The Crime Branch investigated and arrested two of the suspects, now accused, in the Walke murder case to the Margao police, while the main suspect Mustafa Sheikh, now listed as an accused, literally turned up at the Margao police station at 2.30 in the afternoon and surrendered. With this, 3 of the main men behind the Walke murder, were literally ‘served’ to the investigating team.
An FIR was lodged after the murder against two unknown persons, on Wednesday but after Thursday’s developments, it has been updated to name three accused, Omkar Patil, Edson Gonsalves and Mustafa Sheikh.
However, till late in the evening on Thursday, the Margao police and the South Goa SP were absolutely tight-lipped or unaware or both, or perhaps told to be that way, about how the main suspect in the town’s gruesome case, just handed himself over to the law. Conflicting versions emerged. One chain of events which is believed to be the strongest is that the main suspect Mustafa Sheikh realising that the Crime Branch was hot on his trail since midnight of Wednesday ultimately managed to reach Margao and surrender.
Early on Thursday morning, two suspects Omkar Patil and Edson Gonsalves who were arrested by the Crime Branch late night were handed over to Margao Town police on Thursday morning.
One of the accused Omkar Patil was taken to the hospital for medical examination late Thursday evening.
The police were in the search of the fourth accused but remained tight-lipped on the entire chain of incidents.
Meanwhile, Advocate Prashant Borkar who assisted the accused Mustafa Shaikh to surrender raised questions on the accused mental health and said he urged Shaikh’s family to ask him to surrender.
The advocate said Shaikh was taking treatment in Delhi.
