PANJIM: The South-West monsoon advanced over Goa on Monday bringing in light to moderate showers accompanied by wind. Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said that the coastal State is safe from the cyclonic storm ‘Ashobaa’ that has been caused as a result of a deep depression in the Arabian Sea.
Goa MET observatory director V K Mini said the Southwest monsoon entered Goa, parts of South Konkan, remaining parts of coastal Karnataka and parts of South interior Karnataka. IMD has predicted normal rainfall for the State.
“The State will witness heavy to very heavy showers accompanied by gusty wind and thunderstorm for the next two days,” she said.
She, however, said that there is no fear of the cyclonic storm Ashobaa that has moved away from the coast.
A warning has, however, been issued to fishermen for the next 24-hours owing to gusty winds which will be southerly with speed of 45-50 kmph temporarily reaching 60 kmph in gust/squall. A warning has also been issued to all ports.
Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar said that State is equipped to tackle any cyclonic emergency if it occurred.
The moderate to heavy showers in the last two days have brought marginal respite from soaring temperatures, with day temperatures dropping to 33 Degrees Celsius. However, night temperatures continued to remain above normal at 24 Degrees Celsius.
