The number 1 model school has a leak

The expensive primary school in Murmuse Tuem has not been handed over to the authorities despite being inaugurated by the former CM

The state of the art Government Primary School, inaugurated last year is yet to open for the 2017-18 academic year.
After spending around Rs 2.50 crore, the Government Primary School at Murmuse Tuem is yet to open this academic year though schools have re opened across the State. The reason for it being closed is that it has not been handed over to the Education Department to start classes.
The school building was inaugurated on December 25, 2016 by then Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar who also held the Education portfolio. But six months later the project is found incomplete even after inauguration and work is still going on.
Touted as a state of the art primary school project, it aimed to not only provide academic but also extra curricular facilities but the building is still with the contactor.
Before this building came into existence, the school was being run in a single room with all the classes from 1st to 4th standard being conducted in that room. With no basic facilities like toilet, the children used to face a lot of inconveniences but after an inspection by the previous education minister, the Education Department decided to build a new building.
When the school building was inaugurated, the parents of the children who were studying and parents of children who would be admitted to it had expressed happiness at the facilities.
Sources revealed that with the first shower of rain, the roof the building started leaking due to which repair work of the roof is going on. They claimed the work on the roof would be completed by Saturday and on Monday June 12 the school will be opened.
Members of the Parents Teachers Association said if the building was handed over to school authorities and to the public then more students may join. They also said the work was being done very slowly. They demanded the contractor complete the job at the earliest.
