The world at your fingertips!

The days are gone where you have to remove your phone out of your pocket almost 200 times or get up from the couch and literally go to the idiot box and pick up the remote to change the channel. It’s all over and a new era has begun with an affordable type of technology that
puts the world at your fingertips. Rohildev N, a young Indian techie invented a ring-type device that can turn your palm into a gesture interface to control multiple devices which includes smartphones, television, music system, gaming consoles among many others. This smart ring is called ‘Fin’ and promises to be the next revolution in wearable technology. Fin is the first hardware product developed by the Kochi-based robotics start-up that is headed by 23-year-old Rohildev. RHLvision was one of the top 15 companies to be invited to the TechCrunch CES Hardware Battlefield in Las Vegas earlier in January 2014 to explain the only product selected from India. There are many enthusiasts and
evangelists who feel that smartwatches will timeout by 2015, but Fin could really be not just a replacement but a beginning according to me. I
personally feel that wearable devices
and the whole technology is the next
stage of computing and the thumb
ring developed by Rohildev and his
team is stylish and easy for use. The
ring is fitted with a bunch of sensors
that can detect finger taps, swipes
and identify various parts of the palm
by calculating their distance from
the thumb. Technically, it uses smart
Low Energy Technology such as
Bluetooth for communication with
connected devices.Leading with an
example, a person driving a car can
use Fin as their key, answer phone
calls or control the music player
without taking their hands off the
steering wheel or a smartphone user
can rub their index finger against the
thumb to zoom their screens in and
out and they can assign numbers to
different sections of their fingers, turn
their hand into a numeric keypad
and tap in a phone number without
even touching the phone. This is a
beginning to a whole new future at
your fingertips which will be available
by 2015.
Fin is made out of waterproof,
dust-proof and durable material.
One Fin will be capable of supporting
up to three devices at a time via
Bluetooth. This gadget houses a
custom Lithium ion battery with
micro-USB charging dock which will
last more than one month on full
charge. On a daily basis, the Fin Team
is working on support to more types
of appliances and gadgets. I feel that
there are some points that can be
added in the near future that would
make the Fin better and sustainable
on the long run.Today the mobile has
changed the way people look at life
and the way the work throughout the
day. There are teens who are facing
problems as they cannot leave the
phone out of their hand and need to
‘text’ which is considered as a disease.
Fin would be a good solution. As for
visualization of the mobile screen on
the palm of the hand, the team could
work on integration Google Glass to
project the full smartphone interface
in front of the eyes and carry out
more gestures like typing messages
and even accessing the Internet via
the smart ring. Since Fin is a crowd
funded project, it will take some
time and more investment to make
it better.
Apart from Fin, there are many
other technologies like bands by Myo
and even Pranav Mistry’s Sixth Sense
Technology which can be looked
upon to know where the world is
heading and which era we are living
in.Because we are in India and still
developing there is a lot of delay for
a new technology to be imported or
implemented. While most of us have
issues with the very famous Internet
service provider in Goa (BSNL), others
parts in India are ready to experience
Reliance 4G. Where are we???
