PANJIM: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday claimed that there is no problem with Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) used in elections and the issue is raised by the opposition parties only when they lose elections.
Responding to a question during a press conference held at the party office, BJP Goa President Sadanand Shet Tanavade said the issue of EVMs is raised only if political parties lose elections.
“This is not the first time that the issue of EVMs has been raised. If they (the opposition parties) win the elections then they do not find a problem with the EVMs. But when they lose, then they claim that the EVMs can be manipulated. This is not new. Our stand is very clear that there is no problem with the EVMs,” Tanavade said.
The response came in the wake of Supreme Court lawyer Advocate Bhanu Pratap demanding that if the elections are to be held in a free and fair manner then they must be held through ballot papers and not through Electronic Voting Machines.
