There were more robbery targets in Margao, DGP tells jewellers

DGP Meena assures more armed deployment for security of Margao goldsmiths

MARGAO: Director General of Police (DGP) Mukesh Kumar Meena who was at South Goa District Headquarters meeting the Margao market vendors and the goldsmiths of Margao has informed them that there were more targets in Margao for similar robberies. 

The DGP has asked the jewellers of Margao to have round-the-clock armed guards for the market areas. He also assured for round-the-clock armed police security to areas with jewellers in Margao. 

The Goa Gold Dealers’ Association president Pramit Raikar and other members of the association met the DGP. They had requested the DGP for armed police deployment in the Margao market areas. Of the 80 big jewellery shops in Margao, over 50 of them are concentrated in the market areas. Raikar said, “The DGP has agreed to our request to place armed police guards in the areas”.

The market vendors and the gold dealers/jewellers have assured to give two police booths for two different locations in Margao. One similar booth that was given by the jewellers to the Goa Police is placed in a traffic island space in front of MMC.

Vinod Shirodkar, representing the market vendors of New Market has placed a demand before the DGP to round up and detain all the beggars and ragpickers dwelling on roadsides of Margao market. 

“We have requested for increased police patrolling”, he said.
