Thieves strike 7 Ponda temples in 45 days

PONDA: Thieves have targeted around seven temples in Ponda in the last 45 days. Their loot includes precious items and lakhs of rupees in cash from the donation boxes.

PONDA: Thieves have targeted around seven temples in Ponda in the last 45 days. Their loot includes precious items and lakhs of rupees in cash from the donation boxes. The police, meanwhile, have failed to nab the culprits.
The thefts took place just two or three days after the annual zatras, during which devotees dropped large sums of money into the donation box.
Ponda Taluka is known for its numerous temples, many of which do not have security personnel or CCTV cameras. Locals have called upon the police to lay a trap for the thieves, taking into account their modus operandi.
According to Vagurme locals, thieves broke into the Shantadurga Temple during its annual Kalo festival.
