Porvorim: Leader of Opposition Chandrakant Babu Kavlekar has asserted that the Opposition will not make attempts to topple the government as the coalition government under Dr Pramod Sawant will collapse by itself.
Addressing the media after the floor test on Wednesday in the Assembly, Kavlekar said “We congratulate the new Chief Minister for being able to prove his majority but at the same time want to remind that the Governor has once again been unjust twice during this term of the Assembly.”
He further said that the government was formed with horse trading and attempts to break the coalition parties. “This shows that all is not well and there was no majority and how this government has been formed is known by the people of the state”, he added.
Stating that Sawant is the first Chief Minister from the mining belt, he said “We hope that the problem and issue of mining will be resolved before the Lok Sabha elections and being from the mining belt he will not just involve in sloganeering but resolve the issue.”
Navelim MLA Luizinho Faleiro pointing out that the Congress was not invited to form the government for the second time said “Under the leadership of the Governor, the first chapter of manipulative politics has ended and second chapter of manipulative politics has started.”
Poriem MLA Pratapsingh Rane said “The Governor has not called us but she should call us as we are the single largest party. Only then we will be able to ensure the stability and it can be done only by the Congress party.”
Condemning the Governor, Margao MLA Digambar Kamat said “In 2017 when we said that it was wrong on the Governor’s part not invite us to form the government, she had said we did not sake claim to form the government. This time we met the Governor and staked out claim, but she did not invite the single largest party to form the government and has done unjustice to us.”
NCP MLA Churchill Alemao said “The circus that went around during the last three days will not continue for too long because the man who could keep it going is gone. And you will soon see that this government will collapse.”
Curtorim MLA Alexio Reginaldo Lourenco said “They tried to engineer defection and the way they were threatened shows that the majority that the Congress was having was taken away and you will soon the results of all those threats.”
