MARGAO: The Science Express Biodiversity Special on Monday chugged its way to the Margao railway station this morning.
Inaugurated at the hands of KRC Regional Railway Manager, D S Lingaraju, in the presence of Deputy Education Director South Ramkrishna Samant, the train will leave the state after four days on September 5.
Manager of Science Express Biodiversity Special Sudhirkumar Sharma said the science exhibition on wheels was part of efforts to spread awareness amongst the youth how to conserve the rich biodiversity. “This is a unique science exhibition, focussing on biodiversity and climate change, running on the Indian rail network ~ a unique collaborative initiative of department of Science & Technology and Ministry of Environment & Forests, Government of India,” he said.
Since its launch in October 2007, the science exhibition train has travelled over 96,000 km across the country. “With over one crore visitors at its 315 halts and 1,141 exhibition days till date Science Express is the largest, longest and most visible mobile science exhibition in India and has created several records,” Sharma added.
