PANJIM: Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Wednesday assured the State Assembly that government would take strong action against people like Sri Ram Sene Chief Pramod Muthalik and human rights activist Fr Cedric Prakash if they try to disturb peace and communal harmony in the State.
“I assure Goans, no person be it Muthalik or Cedric Prakash, will be permitted to disturb peace in the State. We will take serious action against them. My warning is conditional. The action will be taken only if they try to disturb peace,” Parrikar told the House during question hour, Wednesday, when Congress MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco demanded that Muthalik be detained under national security act (NSA) for his communal remark.
Reginaldo had asked whether any FIR is filed against Muthalik based on a complaint filed by Congress party before the Panjim police. In a written reply, Parrikar told the MLA that on May 29, 2014, a complaint was filed by one Vaman Chodankar and Durgadas Kamat against Muthalik, however, no FIR has been filed and the matter is currently sub-judice. Chief Minister recalled that he was the first BJP leader who strongly opposed the induction of Muthalik in the BJP during the Lok Sabha election arguing that he and other senior party leaders do not subscribe to Muthalik’s sentiments.
Parrikar said that certain section of media and political leaders are trying to instigate people on non-existing issues.
