PANJIM: Observing that several people, with a travel history, are evading screening and self-quarantine, Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant has warned that those going against medical advice of being home quarantined and are found roaming on the streets, would henceforth be jailed.
The State government has already begun to stamp people who are advised to be home quarantined, for suspected coronavirus infection.
Addressing media persons on Wednesday, Sawant said that special teams led by magistrates have been formed that would be on the streets scouting for such people who are advised to remain home but are moving out.
“We have stamped all those who have been advised to remain home quarantined. If we find anyone roaming outside on the street, they would be taken to the police lock ups or sent to Central Jail, Colvale for 14 days,” he said.
Sawant said that the State government has to take these extreme steps to ensure that the virus does not spread in the State. “We don’t have a single positive case of coronavirus infection till now. All our efforts are to ensure that Goa remains a coronavirus free State,” the chief minister said.
