PANJIM: Goa Pradesh Congress Committee President Luizinho Faleiro on Saturday took potshots at certain party leaders lobbying for party tickets and a pre-poll alliance in Delhi, when they fail to even make a presence at the local Congress office.
“I have succeeded in helping them to go on a pilgrimage to Delhi,” he said without naming any leaders.
The Congress party chief said he was unfazed about some leaders bypassing him to reach out to Delhi with their demands. “If I have come back to Goa it is with a mission to build the Congress. I am not worried but happy that the leaders, who did not show their faces in the Congress office in Goa, have found time and money to go to Delhi,” he said.
The statement indicates a split within the party in the run up to the elections. Faleiro gave vague replies to questions on whether tainted party members would again be considered for party tickets. “I have struggled to build a base, I have no doubt that we will form the next government,” he stated.
Some Congress MLAs had recently flown to Delhi to convince the central leadership to accept the proposal of a pre-poll alliance with regional and national parties.
