MARGAO: The feast of Mae Dos Pobres, or the Nuvem Church feast, was celebrated by thousands of devotees, who thronged the church and participated in the festivities, beginning with the Eucharistic celebration.
The statue of Mae Dos Pobres was taken in a procession at Jesus and Mary Church, Nuvem.
Fr Tony Salema, Rector of the Saligao Seminary, was the main celebrant of the feast Mass, and in his homily, he exhorted the faithful to emulate the life of Mother Mary.
Many devotees from across Goa had descended in Nuvem to seek the blessings of Mae dos Pobres and to offer their thanks for favours granted to them. Parish priest Fr Victor Rodrigues said that thousands of people from all walks of life had thronged the church during the novenas as well as on the feast day on Sunday.
Hectic arrangements for the feast were made by the church, traffic police and the community.
