SANGUEM: Several thousand litres of raw water is getting wasted since past many days at Uguem in Sanguem taluka.
The wastage of water takes place at one of the main valves which controls the supply of raw water to Kalay River from Selaulim Dam for onward supply to Opa Water Works.
Due to shortfall of raw water for treatment at Opa Water Works, a 160 MLD water pipeline was laid from Selaulim Dam to Kalay River seven years ago when Manohar Parrikar was the chief minister.
Since last over four days, a leakage has developed at Uguem near Mehar Farms gate to one of the valve controlling the water supply and large quantity of water stands getting wasted since the development of leakage at the valve.
Since last two days, the department officials have fixed a plastic pipe to the damaged valve and the water is released in an open field few metres away from the chamber.
Ironically, to keep the issue from being noted by the general public, the authorities have covered the pipe under mud from the chamber to a little distance where it is otherwise noticeable from the main road. The raw water is now being released in the nearby open area with no use for any person.
