Thousands of people hold rally in Vasco to express support for CAA

VASCO: Thousands of people from Mormugao taluka under the banner of “Mormugao Supports CAA” held a public rally in Vasco in support of Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).
The rally commenced at Kadamba bus stand and calumniated at the place opposite railway station junction on Sunday afternoon. The rally was attended by BJP leaders Mauvin Godinho, Damu Naik, Milind Naik, Carlos Almeida, Narendra Savoikar and former Speaker Rajendra Arlekar. They opined that such a huge turnout at this public rally shows that people of Mormugao are well aware and support CAA.
Speaking to the media on the occasion, Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho said, “The mega rally is a burning example of how much awareness is prevalent among the people of Mormugao taluka regarding CAA. This Act is not against someone but for the prosecuted minorities in other countries.”
Godinho said that Modi government is doing everything for the betterment of the people. He also slammed those, under the garb of protest, damage public property.
Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida also opined that the CAA issue has been mixed up by few people, while in reality there is nothing political about it. “The overwhelming response of the people from Mormugao itself shows the clear picture what people feel about CAA,” he added.
Damu Naik said that he had come to see the response to this mega rally. “I was really surprised to see people in such large numbers at this CAA support rally. I would like to salute to Vasco people who have come together from various forums to show their solidarity to this Act,” he said.
He also mentioned that ample awareness regarding CAA has been done via social media, and other forums among people and as a result of that thousands of people willingly became part of this mega rally.
Urban Development Minister Milind Naik said, “BJP government has an image that whatever they promise, they put it into practice. In 2014, manifesto was put forth by BJP that Article 370, CAA, triple talaq, Ram Mandir. If people had any objections then at that time people should have raised the objection. Looking at the fulfilment of the manifesto there are few people who speak and try to hinder government’s work.”
Naik disclosed that several people from other faiths came and met him on CAA and NRC issue. “After explained to them about the Act, people understood and started supporting the Act,” he said.
