PANJIM, April 8
Thousands of people took to the streets today in protest against the price rise and the anti-people policies of the central and the state government.
The protest led by the Goa state council of Communist Party of India (CPI) was to support the call given by the left parties against anti-people and anti-working class policies vigorously pursued by the Congress government both at state and central level.
“This has resulted into unchecked price rise, continuing job losses, unemployment, mass hunger and poverty,” Goa state council secretary, Christopher Fonseca said.
He said that due to the faulty economic policies of the government, the prices of the essential commodities have gone beyond the reach of common man and toiling masses.
“The government in the name of free market and economy and neo-liberalism, has failed to manage the economy,” Fonseca alleged.
Fonseca also said that the blame game which erupted among the coalition partners in UPA-II government has further complicated the issue of price rise.
The secretary lamented over the conditions of the working people in the country and blamed the government for being negligent in protecting their basic rights.
The demonstration unanimously adopted and passed several resolution like roll back the prices of the petrol and diesel, control prices of essential commodities, job security to all contract workers, immediate revision and enhancement of minimum wages and many others.
