PANJIM: A driver of a four-wheeler lost control of the vehicle and rammed it into a culvert wall on Thursday morning escaping with minor injuries at Curti-Ponda.
The driver, who reportedly dozed off while driving, was on his way to Ponda, after a late-night shift. Ponda locals have requested the authorities to construct a speed breaker at the spot to prevent such accidents.
Meanwhile, a truck hit a cow and an ox at Malpe-Pernem highway on Thursday morning. The cow succumbed to its injuries while the ox was critically injured. The fire officials with the help of local authorities took the ox to a nearby goshala for treatment.
The fire officials have requested the farmers to take care of their cattle and make sure they do not wander off onto the highways. Further investigation is on.
In another accident reported, a loaded truck turned turtle along the Maple-Pernem highway. The driver was trapped in the truck and was severely wounded.
The fire officials immediately rushed to the site and rescued the driver, who was then shifted to a hospital.
For the past two months, this section of highway is under construction, with various diversions by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). The fire officials have requested the NHAI to put up proper signboards to remedy the situation. (With inputs from Santosh Naik and Asmita Polji)
